Breast reduction surgery is a surgical procedure to reduce the size and improve the shape of the
chest to be more proportionate and symmetrical. Generally, breast reduction surgery patients suffer from symptoms such as physical stress caused by the weight and form of the breasts. Our highly skilled surgical team is highly experienced in performing surgeries to help female patients improve their body-to-chest proportions and balance, as well as relieve neck and back pain caused by large breasts.
Breast Reduction Surgery Method
Breast reduction surgery begins with an incision around the base of the nipple and vertically under the base of the nipple, then down to the base of the chest. Surgeons may also have to incise horizontally under the breasts depending on the doctor’s recommendation. Surgeons and doctors use a ‘Short-scar Technique’ in breast reduction surgery as it helps reduce and re shape the breasts to excellent effects with minimal surgical scarring.
This procedure takes approximately between 2-4 hours depending on the surgical method or technique and size of the breasts. The operation will be performed with general anesthesia putting the patient to sleep, together with the use of a local surgical anesthetic or numbing agent. In breast reduction surgery, patients with smaller breast sizes, sometimes only a general anesthesia is needed for the patient to sleep. Surgical scars will vary depending on the size of the breasts prior to surgery, and the desired breasts size after surgery. Some patients with very large breasts undergoing breast reduction surgery may also require the removal of the nipple and areola during the surgery, and then reattached after the reduction procedure of the breasts.
Post Breast Reduction Surgery and Rehabilitation
Patients may be allowed to return after surgery, or may recover under the clinic’s supervision and care, depending on the size of the breasts, the surgical methods and techniques, and the duration of the surgery.
